Addiction Therapy

At Concise Recovery, we’ve seen firsthand how important specialized therapies are to lasting recovery. We offer proven approaches rooted in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Our methods also include an emphasis on mindfulness, as well as comprehensive case management that continues after inpatient treatment concludes.

The generic approach to addiction treatment has been proven to be ineffective. Every individual has a unique context surrounding their situation. We can’t approach your treatment in the same manner as the other members of our program. You’re singular, and you need a tailored approach that recognizes your personal backstory, genetic predisposition, current environment, and unaddressed traumas.

The individualized approach begins from the moment you step foot on our facility. You’ll be physically and psychologically assessed by an experienced clinical team. We’ll use the results of that assessment to create a treatment plan that’s personalized to you.

Different kinds of treatment

Addiction Therapy Types: EMDR, CBT, and DBT

The staff at our rehab in San Fernando Valley are experts in a wide variety of highly effective therapeutic techniques. This diversity in expertise enables us to create a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs and experiences. Initial intake and conversation will allow the therapist to determine which option will be the best suited to your recovery. Concise Recovery offers three major types of therapy: EMDR, CBT, and DBT. EMDR is short for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing; it is primarily used in the treatment of traumatic experiences and uses eye movements to alleviate the stress associated with these memories. CBT, or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, is a talk therapy designed to change one’s negative thought patterns by concentrating on the present while setting goals for the future. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) creates a focus on change and acceptance, all geared around enhancing the patient’s capabilities and motivation. These three techniques can all be helpful to your recovery, and our experts will work with you to determine which is the best fit for your treatment plan.

The goal with EMDR, CBT, and DBT is to alleviate stress and imprint new methods of thinking. These therapies allow us to find and treat the underlying conditions behind your addiction. During an EMDR session, for example, patients are asked to relive traumatic experiences under the guidance of a licensed therapist. During the session, the therapist directs your eye movement. This is done as a way to reduce the impact of an emotionally distressing experience, as your attention is being subliminally diverted away by the change in your eye movement.

CBT teaches our patients how to find the connecting relationship between their thoughts, emotions, and actions— and how these domains influence each other. Through CBT, our patients are better equipped to think and act in a way that supports sobriety.

DBT gives our patients the tools to think and live in the present. DBT helps our patients overcome negative behaviors and damaging emotions. In their place, treatment providers help participants create positive behaviors that build a strong foundation for recovery success.

Holistic Approaches to Addiction Treatment

The goal with EMDR, CBT, and DBT is to alleviate stress and imprint new methods of thinking. These therapies allow us to find and treat the underlying conditions behind your addiction. DBT gives our patients the tools to think and live in the present. DBT helps our patients overcome negative behaviors and damaging emotions. In their place, treatment providers help participants create positive behaviors that build a strong foundation for recovery success.

Mindfulness training enables you to be actively aware of your feelings and thoughts in the present, confronting them without judgment. Instead of living in denial or fearing triggers, you gain the ability to regulate emotions and act rationally, even when under extreme stress. This equips you with the necessary tools to manage impulses and navigate difficult situations after treatment.

Some typical mindfulness techniques include:

  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Immersion in nature
  • Regulated breathing

Dual disorders, or co-occurring disorders, happen when a person suffers from a mental health disorder alongside a substance use disorder. The two disorders often feed into one another, creating a vicious cycle that may feel impossible to break. Dual diagnosis is the process of diagnosing both disorders and creating a treatment plan to address them simultaneously. Since a mental health disorder can contribute to addiction and vice versa, both issues must be addressed together to achieve lasting recovery.

After patients have completed the rehabilitation process with Concise Recovery, they have the option of residing in our sober living community. Sober living allows a person to transition back into daily life while living in a safe location free of addictive substances. Residents in sober living communities are expected to look after themselves and keep up with responsibilities such as paying rent, completing chores, and abiding by a curfew.

Relapse is a very common part of the recovery journey. Research has shown that more than half of those who complete rehab treatment for drug or alcohol addiction will relapse within the first year. However, relapsing does not mean you have failed, and with Concise Recovery’s continuous care through our sober living program, you can achieve long-term recovery and keep control over your lifestyle.

Inpatient rehabilitation, or residential treatment, means that patients reside at an addiction treatment facility for a set length of time. With inpatient care, patients have 24/7 access to recovery specialists and can heal in a safe and controlled environment. Outpatient care is when patients receive addiction treatment services but can still return to the comfort of their own homes at the end of the day. Outpatient care allows patients to have a more flexible schedule and still live their daily life outside of a treatment center.

The rehabilitation process can vary depending on your needs and the best timeline to suit your healing. Most addiction rehabilitation programs vary in length from 30-day programs to 60-days to 90-days. Contact us to learn more.

At Concise Recovery, you will start your healing journey with one of our accredited sub-acute detox programs, which take place in luxurious, private facilities, staffed by industry experts. From there, our team will create an individualized treatment plan to best fit your recovery needs. Addiction recovery can include inpatient care, outpatient care, therapies, and aftercare through our sober living program.
